Rabbi Meir Baal HaNess - Master of the Miracle

Yarzheit: 14 Iyar - 6 May 2012

Ohel of Rabbi Meir Ba'al HaNess

By simply saying the phrase אלהא דמאיר ענני "Eloka d'Meir aneini" three times , which means "the G-d of Meir Answer me !", a person will be saved from trouble, if they promise to give charity to the poor and needy in the memory of the soul of Rebbe Meir Baal Haness . Donations can be made at Rabbi Meir Baal HaNeis.com

The Chida says that the source for this custom is the Gemara [Avodah Zara 18a-b] where Rebbi Meir bribed a guard to release his imprisoned sister-in-law. The guard asked what happens if he's caught and Rebbi Meir told him to say ''G-d of Meir answer me'' and he would be saved, and that's what happened. From there comes the custom of donating money or oil for the neshama of Rebbi Meir, saying Eloka D'Meir Aneini, three times.

Rebbi Meir Baal HaNess said he would help those that gave to the poor of Eretz Yisroel, for the sake of his neshama.

Reb Dovid of Dinov points out a fascinating allusion:

Mishlei 12:25 says דְּאָגָה בְלֶב-אִישׁ יַשְׁחֶנָּה - if one has worry in his heart, he should suppress it.

Mesechta Sanhedrin 100b explains this as ישיחנה לאחרים, tell it over to others. Mesechta Horios 13b says אחרים refers to Rebbi Meir. Putting it all together – if one is in a time of trouble give tzedaka for the neshama of Rebbi Meir Baal HaNess.  [Source: Tzemach Dovid]

Anytime, and especially on the yahrzeit, it is a big zechus to give tzedaka or light a candle li'luy nishmas Rebbi Meir Baal HaNess.

There is a custom that when something is lost, a person immediately promises to give some money to the Tzedakah of Rebbe Meir Baal Haness in the merit of finding what was lost, and say the following [red text in picture below]

  1. Past years ago, I requested a few prayers to them with my donation. Nothing happened to me. Is that why I'm noahide? Does he prefer to help his Jewish people only?

    2. Saturday night, the Jewish date begins at nightfall. You can light a 24 hour candle, or if you don't h ave one, just light a candle any time during the 24 hour period.

  2. This is Anon101. Any person who gives charity to Jewish causes will IY"H be blessed from Hashem. If you are helping the King's children, do you think the King will not reward you?

  3. this has nothing to do with jew or non jew. G-d looks mercifully on all His creations. thats why we still exist even though most of us dont deserve to. for more than two years i have been sending tzedekkah to r meir's site . my prayer is not answered that does not mean it wont happen. some our of requests can be answered on the merits of the holy sage. some may be in Hashem's court. so where our request now is, we dont know, but that it is there and the tzaddik is appealing to Hashem to answer us, have no doubt. soemtimes what we ask may not be good for us though we are 100% sure it is. some requests may not be answered because its not the time for it. perhaps Hashem loves seeing us turn to Him so much or thro his tzaddiks, that for the moment he is with holding answering us. as if answered we may temporarily stop asking Him daily. remember during the inaurgeration of the temple king solomon prayed that when a gentile comes to the holy place or looks towards the holy place and asks, to answer them so they will know there is G-d In israel. if G-d gives us everything we ask, everytime we ask, we are not going to grow spiritually. do our parents give us everything we ask, and whenever we ask? still do we doubt their love. how much more must we not doubt Hashem's Love, yes, its special for israel, but He also loves us. so much so when the wicked egyptians were drowning He told the angels not to sing, as His creations were being destroyed. i dont think you or i fall into the cateogory of the wicked egyptians.

  6. I didn't know where my silver bracelet was. I googled about the prayer and came here. Then put money for tzedakah and said the prayer. The next morning, while looking around, I found it baruch Hashem

  7. When you say or you promise to give tzedakka ALWAYS remember to say: BLI NEDER. If a person promises something and does not fulfil it or is unable to fulfil his/her promise, then the consequences could be very severe - Heaven Forbid.
Therefore it is customary to be extremely careful to say the two words:
BLI NEDER. [meaning: Without a Promise.] Obviously a person must ALWAYS keep his/her word!
