Make a list of everyone to whom you want to send Mishloach Manot.
Throw it out.
Now give the Mishloach Manot to everyone who wasn't on the list.
That's what Purim is all about.
The four mitzvot of Purim are:
1. Hearing the megillah [twice]
2. Matanot L'evyonim – we give gifts or money to at least two underprivileged people. To donate Tzedaka direct to Israeli families: click here
3. Mishloach Manot - we give a gift of at least two varieties of ready-to-eat foods to at least one person. Many have the custom to give to a greater number.
The two mitzvot listed above were devised to generate a powerful bond between all Jews. When there is love and unity amongst Jews, our enemies cannot harm us.
4. To partake in a Seudah, or festive meal.
Niiiice! Purim Sameach!
ReplyDeleteChazal teach us that all the Jewish festivals will be nullified, save for the holiday of Purim.
ReplyDeleteThis is extremely difficult to understand. How can it be that Purim, which is a chag (festival) that was decreed by the Sages and prophets, should be higher, spiritually, than all the festivals that were decreed in the Torah?
See The light of Purim and the eighth millenia
Isn’t the 15th of Av also included? I think there are two days, but don’t have time to check right now.
ReplyDeletejust soooooooo adorable that pic! Give her a big hug and kiss, these are her best days.
Once Moshiach is here and we'll be in the messianic age, history will be over. A new beginning where there will be no evil in the world. The world will be full of the knowledge of H' and our connection to HIM will be different; much closer, guess like one on One,
ReplyDeleteIf every generation has the one who could be the potential Moshiach, then every generation would also have the Ben Josef, and Elijah, correct?
ReplyDeleteWe pray all three "players" are in place.. for the completion and not another generation that must come, ... but ours... amen!!
angela: MBYosef can be from any tribe or might just be the Jewish nation itself that battles our enmies. Eliyahu Hanavi is Eliyahu Hanavi. MBDovid, on the other hand, is a person descended from the Royal House of Dovid who is worthy which in every generation, there is someone like that but the generation might not be worthy and it is not in its time. Chazal tell us it is even probable that Dovid himself can come back to be the 'Moshiach' or one of his descendants who is no longer with us.

ReplyDeleteI thought Purim had five mitzvot, the 5th being Ad D'Lo Yada?
