Lag b'Omer is the 33rd day of the counting of the Omer, and we celebrate with bonfires and music.
It is also the yarzheit of Rebbe Shimon bar Yochai. [18 Iyar]
This year it is motzei Shabbat going into Sunday.
Why is Lag b’Omer celebrated with bonfires and bows and arrows?
by Rabbi Yossi Marcus
The bonfires celebrate the immense light that was brought into the world by Rabbi Shimon bar Yochai [who passed away on Lag b’Omer], especially on the day of his passing.
The bow commemorates the fact that during Rabbi Shimon’s lifetime no rainbow was ever seen. [Bereishit Rabbah 35:2] Note: This was a good thing because the rainbow appears when the earth deserves punishment. The first time a rainbow appeared was after Noah’s flood, when G-d said that He will no longer destroy the world, rather He would send a sign: the rainbow. During Rabbi Shimon’s lifetime, the world was filled with merit because of him and therefore never saw a rainbow. [Genesis 9:8-17 and Rashi there]
There is a Kabbalistic tradition that on Lag b’Omer a rainbow will appear in a different color, which will symbolize the arrival of the Messianic age [Bnei Yissaschar]
I have quite a few Lag b'Ome posts which include informative videos, click here to view
So if we don’t see a rainbow in a different color this Lag b’Omer, that means that Moshiach isn’t coming soon?
ReplyDelete-Sherrie (noahide)
No it doesn't mean Moshiach isn't coming soon, but if we DO see one then we can get extremely excited. People have been seeing unusual rainbows for a long time now, some of them I have posted here. But don't be discouraged if we don't get a Lag b'Omer special rainbow. I guess that would just be the icing on the cake.
ReplyDeleteAnonymous your comments were not published because they were offensive. No-one is talking about the person you are bringing into this conversation. We did discuss that on a different video and I have no intention of discussing it here again.
ReplyDeleteApart from which, if you post an Anonymous comment and you do not sign off with a name, you give me an obvious reason to delete you, notwithstanding all the ranting and raving you gave me, which I certainly wouldn't publish.
Go away please.

I will turn Anonymous comments back on after Shabbos, 10 abusive comments in a row from an obsessive angry reader is more than enough for one day.

ReplyDeleteThere are many sources that since MBY and MBD are the same person, that there are 2 stages with an interruption in between. There are many opinions of how long the interruption is.
Look at Daniel 7:13 - a source I have not shared here before
The Rebbe told us all to learn Inyonai Moshiach and Geula.
Many times in my life, non Jews have quoted "their sources" ONLY for me to tell them that the actual source is in Torah. Since there is "Nothing new under the sun" - every concept in this world has its source in HaShem's Toras Emes"
Moshiach is and will always be from HaShem's Torah.
Annie: maybe, but I think it's more like an actual rainbow. But you could be right.
ReplyDeleteHello. my name is Luke and I have a question: I have Asperger’s and I’m a supporter of Judaism. I have a desire though: can God create for me or can he already have created for me a female clone of myself (that looks like me but is a female me) that’s waiting for me in the afterlife/world to come. I ask because I want a female me to be friends with because I don’t have a lot of friends (due to my Asperger’s) and I want a female me who I can be with forever.
ReplyDeletethanks.
God can do anything he chooses to do. That's why we pray, to ask him for his help and to show gratitude for all the numerous miracles he does for us on a daily basis.

ReplyDeleteI recommend that you ask your question on this website link below:

Very sad that another chag in 5784 has come and (almost) gone without Moshiach’s arrival. If Moshiach isn’t here by Shavuot, I’m giving up on anytime until the final deadline for Techiyat Hameitim before 5790. Moshiach comes before techiyat Hameitim.

Why do people say that all the time?
DeleteMoshiach can come in the blink of an eye if Hashem wills it so.
In the future world we will all be asked if we longed for and waited for Moshiach everyday. We do not have the option of giving up...its in the Rambam's 13 principals of faith. Jewish people were led to the Gas Chambers with the tefila "Ani Ma'amin" on their lips. "Even though he may tarry I will wait for him"
When Moshiach comes how will you explain to him you gave up because he didn't arrive on the timetable you would have liked, or have planned for him.
This is going "lefi eitz ratzon elokim"...not what we want....our job is to long for Moshiach the Geulah and the return of Hashem's presence to us, with a burning fire and longing in our hearts and souls. If we stop actively yearning for the Geulah we may possibly delay it further. We have to show Hashem we are desperate for Moshiach and we will storm the heavens with tefila until Hashem sends us the Geulah.
Giving up even temporarily isn't an option.
I don't mean to be harsh but now is not the time for any of us to cease our efforts.

ReplyDeleteWe may be witnessing the war of Gog U Magog right now as it unfolds before our eyes, and we might not even realize it. Possibly being fought by MbY, who may not even be recognized as such.
Remember (some of) the qualifications of MbY. That he may not be the kind of person you expect. That he will fight the wars of Hashem against the entire world. According to Malbim (and more recently, Rav Mendel Kessin), that he will be from the US (Edom). That he is from the tribe of Yosef.
Is there anyone right now in the arena that has these qualifications? Yes! Benjamin Netanyahu. Now before you jump and say politics, take a closer look. Look at him with fresh eyes. Forget his errors and the past. He is literally sacrificing himself for the Jewish people and for Israel! He is being attacked, reviled and threatened by "friends" and enemies alike . Outside Israel, and within. Literally the entire world, and is continuing the war in Rafah. It is not a far stretch of the imagination that he may very well be assassinated doing so. My belief is Hashem will give him super human courage, the Yechida of Adam HaRishon (as Rabbi Kessin explains) Perhaps a second person will join him.
The last prime minister of the state of Israel; MbY.

Yes thank you CSF - and in future anyone commenting with negativity such as "giving up" will be instantly deleted. There's no room for negativity now. absolutely no space for it.
ReplyDeleteDevora I do think that people are in tremendous amount of pain and it is their way of getting some

Pain is permitted here, but negativity about the Geula is very draining.
ReplyDeletePeople read comments like that and think they should give up too.
I totally understand people in pain, I'm just about to re-blog something about why we are all suffering so much now.
