''Battle for Damascus has started'' [video]

International envoy Kofi Annan says the 16-month conflict in Syria has reached a critical point as heavy fighting in the capital Damascus enters a third straight day.

Syria's rebel army says it has launched a full scale offensive to "liberate" the capital, dubbing the campaign "the Damascus volcano and earthquakes of Syria."

Fighting in the capital appears to be worsening, with reports that government forces are deploying tanks and helicopter gunships as they fight to regain control of rebel-held areas.

The clashes have now reached Sabaa Bahrat Square - a central site where President Assad's regime once staged pro-government rallies to counter the opposition protests that erupted early last year.

"There is no going back. The Damascus battle has priority for us. We have started the operation to liberate Damascus," rebel commander Colonel Qassem Saadeddine said.

  1. As דמשק (Damascus) and מקדש (Mikdash) have the same letters, wouldn't it be nice if the headline read, "Battle for Mikdash has started"?

Especially since according to Zecharia 9:1, the Beit Hamikdash is supposed to reach until Damascus.

    1. That's great ! And as there's no such thing as a coincidence, maybe the battle for the Mikdash HAS started.

  2. Yishaiyahu 17:1-11 have been frequently commented on as being the capture of Damascus by Senchariv. There was a tripartite agreement between King Omri of Ephraim, the King of Damascus, and The King of Tyre in which their children would marry the daughters of the other kings. As it turned out, Omri's son Achav married Jezebel the daughter of the King of Tyre. This tripartite agreement lasted until the destruction of Damascus, and Yishaiyahu speaks about the pain and suffering of Ephraim over that destruction. What goes unexplained are verses 17: 12- 14 which are truly wild verses describing something completely different, a World War surrounding Damascus at the End of Days. For starters: "Woe to the tumult of the many nations, who are as tumultuous as the tumult of the seas; and to the uproar of the nations, who roar like the uproar of powerful waters." So the original prophesy concerning the downfall of Damascus 2700 years ago, now takes on new meaning. The Final downfall will result in a World War with the potential re-establishment of the scion of Ephraim as the King of Israel. How this comes about, Yishaiyahu kept most of the answer close to his vest. The next verse gives a hint: "Nations roar like the roar of many waters, but He will rebuke them and they will flee far away; The will be pursued like the chaff of mountains before the wind, and like pollen before a stormy wind."

    1. Excellent, R' Dov. Just to add to this, amazingly, verse 14 there starts לעת ערב, which is the gematria of 772 and also refers to מנחה גדולה as Rav Fish mentions repeatedly.

    (Rabbi Zev Wineberg)

I forget the name of the book – well written, very passionate Jewish – but I was a bit skeptical if the religious author was correct in his assumptions.

He believed that the prophecies preluding Moshiach indicate that Russia will come to Syria, beginning Gog Umagog the battle (not effecting the Jews in way God forbid, but eliminating the enemies of the Jews) will unfold.

So (after hearing something similar from the Rebbe) seeing this is the fact on the grounds – as I read – that apart from Russian weaponry that has been sent for awhile into Syria – they are now sending their warships there – it means Moshiach and all the goodness for the Jewish people he will bring is manifesting now.

    1. How can we get the name of the book? I see that Rabbi Wineberg didn't mention it. Anyone know?

    1. I don't believe that Yishaiyahu described a volcano. more like a raging storm affecting a multitude of nations. Yet, the chaff of mountains reference is curious. But it is not referring to a volcano.

  6. Not that I take great stock in Yemenite Sabbatean references, but this reference mentions a great cliff of Damascus splitting as a Geula sign. The footnote notes that the Midrash called Nistarot DeRibbi Shimon Bar Yohai has a similar sign.

Proof Moshiach Is Literally Around The Corner

In the 73 war the Rebbe conveyed the message to Mosheh Dayan, conquer Damascus.

Mosheh Dayan erroneously fearing Russian involvement if he would, did not

The Rebbe explained from sources, that the fall of Damascus is the rise of Jerusalem

What is the truth behind the fall of Assad, Syria and the name of the Arab world

    January 30, 2012Rabbi WinebergLeave a comment

We recently saw on a Living Torah video how the Rebbe strongly believed that Syria will fall in an anticipation of the coming of the Moshiach

The Rebbe advocated for Israel to march through Damascus.

  8. Who are these glossy skinned people in Isaiah 18

    Ah, land of the buzzing of wings, which is beyond the rivers of Ethiopia;

That sendeth ambassadors by the sea, even in vessels of papyrus upon the waters! Go, ye swift messengers, to a nation tall and of glossy skin, to a people terrible from their beginning onward; a nation that is sturdy and treadeth down, whose land the rivers divide!

All ye inhabitants of the world, and ye dwellers on the earth, when an ensign is lifted up on the mountains, see ye; and when the horn is blown, hear ye.
