The following is my dilemma: We've been hearing for a million years that the time is ripe but it all depends on us. What does that mean in real terms? If you say Moshiach will come either when we're totally corrupt or totally righteous....what does that mean in real terms? If you take all this at it's face value then I don't believe that we are in real terms either totally corrupt or totally righteous. So, where does that leave us? That we have to wait for the next opportune time? Hashem sees the potential of every one of His children to be whom He wants us to be and He's redeemed us before based on that potential and perhaps on the merit of that same potential He'll redeem us...NOW! ReplyDeleteI heard in the name of Rabbi Moshe Feinstein that it's a description of the times when Moshiach will come. On the one hand it looks like it's the worst generation, nothing feels real, our Torah is not like generations past and our davening is weak compared to before. On the other hand look at all the challenges the Jewish people have been through last hundred years and now. Compared to the challenges to observance we are the best generation, all tzadikim. To sum up it's a description of our generation where the same person you can describe with both descriptions and be right.

I like what you said about us all being tinok sh'nishba, because we are the heel of the generations, we have barely any knowledge, compared to previous generations, so we're all innocents in some way.
DeleteMoshiach ben yosef does not have to be a individual like Moshiach ben dovid, it could be a generation of leaders or time frame or tzadikim of previous generations.

We are in Moshiach ben yosef times ending it, moshiach ben dovid not only has it come , time but he is late we have 214 years till 6000, there is no time for a Moshiach ben yosef individual we need to have Moshiach ben dovid the beis hamikdash and techiyas hameisim so we can all go into 6000.
I believe the generation of the holocaust was Moshiach ben yosef though its not up to us to come up with reasons for it.
But what is clear Moshiach ben yosef has come by natural means as its not a individual and Moshiach ben dovid is running a bit late.

Shalom! I've been reading these comments about M ben Yosef and I want to tell you all this. You are looking in the wrong places. Firstly you need to understand that MBY was a normal person like everyone else and just like everyone else he had many good deeds and many bad deeds, just a regular guy you know. Before he can be Moshiach ben Yosef he must receive the extra soul of ben Yosef. this is called ibbur neshama. Once he has received his ben Yosef soul, he is a changed person.
