In Roman mythology, Lua was a goddess to whom soldiers sacrificed captured weapons. She is sometimes referred to as "Lua Saturni," which makes her a consort of Saturn. It may be that Lua was merely an alternative name for Ops.
For us in Australia it will have a enormous impact. The damage to the area in human terms will be minimal due to the spare population in this remote area. However, the tropical cyclone has hit our nation's iron ore and gas powerhouse only days after the Federal Government blamed the first monthly trade deficit in more than a year on the last significant cyclone to hit the Pilbara. Chevron Australia,Woodside Petroleum,Onshore Chinese-owned CITIC Pacific Mining, Rio Tinto Iron Ore and Junior Atlas Iron are still reeling from TC Heidi that lashed the region in December last year, stalling at least 1.5 million tonnes of iron ore exports from the Port Hedland port.
Is there a message in this ? Weapons are made from steel that is derived from iron ore. Is it ploughshares beaten into swords.....or swords beaten into ploughshares ? Maybe both in the stated order.
I see if from a monetary point of view, it's costing us a fortune one way or another. The floods and now this.
Australia is definitely being hit on all sides now. Flooding on the east/south and cyclones on the west.
I think it's our contribution to the world's disastrous economy...so far Australia seemed to have survived the GFC, but now we have problems of our own, as well as the weather costs, we have the disaster of people buying online, retail shopping going into bankruptcy because of it, and thousands more unemployed. So Australia managed to bypass the first GFC, but probably won't manage to bypass the second [bigger] GFC.
We're on the other side of the continent to the cyclone. And the floods aren't anywhere near me - I don't think they're near Joe either, hopefully anyway.
TC Lua is on the west coast of the Land Down Under...well away from us. However, there is another TC brewing in the North of Queensland, my home State.....still a long way away though.
Notwithstanding,as Devorah states, Australia is punch drunk from all these natural disasters, not to mention the toll on our mineral exports that has impacted on our economy.
New Foreign Minister.....but still the same old "two state solution in the Middle East." Economic downturns and meltdowns are an act of HaShem's Rachamim in so far as they are a wake up call. However, if left unheeded, then HaShem's Din arrives with war in its wake.
The great Depression of the 1920s with WW2 should be a valid reminder.

"But I don't want to go among mad people," Alice remarked. "Oh, you can't help that," said the Cat: "we're all mad here. I'm mad. You're mad." "How do you know I'm mad?" said Alice. "You must be," said the Cat, "or you wouldn't have come here."

Shavua Tov Devorah.
There is more to this than meets the eye.
The meaning of "LUA" is one thing :

Devorah and Joe, please be safe... are you near this TC?

Todah Rabbah for your concern, ladies.
