Confronting the Truth

Parshas VaYigash: Rav Moshe Shternbuch -

The Medrash says that when Judgement day comes, we will not be able to stand up to the "Tochacha" - the rebuke from Hashem. We learn this from the Shvatim who couldn't bear the embarrassment of learning that Yosef was alive.

Rav Moshe Shternbuch says that we see from here that the most painful rebuke is not a good screaming at, but rather being forced to confront the truth. Yosef did not scream or threaten, rather he softly told them that he is their brother whom they tried to destroy.

Upon seeing how wrong they were, they experienced the worst embarrassment of their lives.

Similarly says Rav Shterbuch in the name of the Baal Shem Tov HaKadosh, the pasuk in Tehilim says, "Kel Nekamos Hashem". At the end of time Hashem will avenge those who have sinned against him. How?

The pasuk continues "Kel Nekamos Hofia". Hashem's revenge is simply to appear!

After all of history when Hashem finally reveals Himself openly to the entire world, everyone will be be mortally embarrassed when they grasp the lowliness for each and every one of their sins.

  1. Devorah, in your previous post you implied that many Non-Aussies view Australia is subpar or whatever. But FWIW, not once in my life has it even occurred to me to think that way! In fact, one of my sweetest acquaintances had moved there long ago. Also, both my niece and my cousin married wonderful Aussies. With that said, now that i've viewed the video, i'm in awe at the unity, intellect and open-mindedness there, as compared to my own experience in a mainstream, heavily populated community. Rav Yehoram Ulman's speech was also awesome. Finally, the scenic vista's there are chock full of "rabu maasecha Hashem". So there's definitely a basis for Rav Schneerson's saying Moshiach will come to Australia first.

    1. Thank you. I get a lot of comments which I don't publish, and they're not very nice, to put it mildly. Even just a few days ago they kept coming. It just makes me wonder why people like that read a Geula blog in the first place. Unfortunately these comments come from people who appear to be Jewish, but obviously I don't know who they actually are. Anyway, blogging is not exactly a safe occupation and I often dread opening Anonymous comments.

    2. Because Australias day starts first
      In the world .

Geulah is not coming until we separate form the nations and become united with HaShem through Torah and we cry to HaShem to redeem us and ask for the kingdom of heaven and the kingdom of David and to be redeemed .

Basically when we all get sick and tired of
      Living in Galut. .

Just like in Mitzraim before Moshe showed up .

    3. The Three Things Israel Must Ask For:

Chazal frame redemption as contingent on explicit, aligned tefillah for the three pillars of Geulah, which are embedded directly into Shemoneh Esrei and nowhere else.

      1. Restoration of Malchut Beit David (Mashiach)

We ask explicitly for the return of Davidic kingship, not for a person by name and not for a spiritual leader by belief.

“את צמח דוד עבדך מהרה תצמיח”
(Berachot 28b; Rambam, Hilchot Tefillah 2)

This request is institutional and national, not personal or charismatic. Chazal deliberately structured it this way to prevent false messianism.

      2. Rebuilding of the Beit HaMikdash

Geulah is incomplete—and cannot be identified—without the Mikdash.

“ולירושלים עירך ברחמים תשוב… ובנה אותה”
(Megillah 17b; Rambam, Hilchot Melachim 11:1)

Any messianic claim that bypasses or postpones the Mikdash is, by definition, false.

      3. Kibbutz Galuyot (Ingathering of Exiles)

The redemption is national and public, not spiritual and private.

“תקע בשופר גדול לחרותנו… וקבצנו יחד”
      (Berachot 28b; Sanhedrin 97b)

Chazal emphasize that redemption cannot be recognized until this occurs openly.

    5. what we have had is an awakening, a mass awakening, and to me that is a huge sign of approaching Geula.

    6. I just read this:

At 9pm on New Year’s Eve the Harbour Bridge will shine white, with an image of a dove and the word “peace” projected onto it.

The city will then pause for a moment of silence to remember the victims of the deadly Bondi Beach shooting and unite to condemn antisemitism.

In Jewish mystical and biblical sources, the dove (Yonah) is a powerful metaphor for the Jewish people and the Divine Presence, with several connections to the coming of Moshiach (the Messiah).

    7. This if for Anonymous at 3.07 - be careful with your strict conditions regarding the coming of Mashiach, because you might just miss the smaller events that are the signposts along the way.

    1. Not just those children, I saw another post on FB searching for a woman who shielded someone's else child. People are still traumatised, badly. Hopefully they all find each other.

    2. Also, their mother was shot, we don't know her current condition, her secular name is unknown, the public has not been told the names of these people. I don't know any other details about the family.

  3. “We cannot fight an evil we refuse to name,” she continued as the room erupted into applause.

“Radical Islam. It is not that hard. It should not be offensive to anyone, Muslim, Jew, Christian; it is evil and it must be called for what it is. We must fight it.”
