Have you seen one of these? They happen all the time now. They say it is traditionally a sign of rain within 24 hours, but a lot of the time it doesn't rain at all. When I saw one, there was no rain.
Yes I can imagine it would feel creepy if you've never seen one before. I've seen so many videos and photos of them, I was just excited to see one for real. Strange things above our heads these days.
P.S. What i find interesting at 31:00 on the slider of R'Weisberg, is that he's proposing something really innovative (which R'Sokol alluded to earlier in that same video - featuring R'Breitowitz discussing an innovative political party).
...what's innovative, is that R'Weisberg, in a nutshell, is proposing "OPEN-SOURCE RABBONUS" (my wording), which hypothetically would encompass MANY rabbi's of both prominent AND minority communities, and which would include Torah-based sources. That would facilitate true unity, with nobody falling thru the cracks. And that would be conducive to a relationship with G-d.
...in other words, according to R'Weisberg, G-d can't readily have a relationship with a non-unified Jewish nation, any more than the average person can have a normal relationship with someone who's schizophrenic.
If R'Weisberg were younger, no kidding, I think he could qualify as a moshiach. Ditto regarding R'Breitowitz.
Interestingly, the concept of a singular united path to Torah observance, without any minhagim and accesible to every person in the klal, is something that the rabbi of Machon Shilo has been talking about for some years now; specifically, that uniting the klal will be possible if there were some 'down to the letter' system of observance, that every jew would inherit before being inculcated in their family and community minhagim. This would certainly help the farthest from mitzvah observance, in not being scared off by the abundance of communal differences in observance, and make it feel like a more simple matter to take on mitzvah observance, knowing there is this overseeing body of rabbis representing the entirety of the klal, which has a certain 'sheltering' feeling as opposed to reaching out to some given community's leading figures.

"But I don't want to go among mad people," Alice remarked. "Oh, you can't help that," said the Cat: "we're all mad here. I'm mad. You're mad." "How do you know I'm mad?" said Alice. "You must be," said the Cat, "or you wouldn't have come here."
Saw it in NJ this past summer and it was a very creepy experience. Felt very Truman Show like.

I'm 44 years old, when I was a child I saw exactly the same halo, the same phenomena. Nothing special here, I guess.
ReplyDeleteWow, but I bet they didn't happen as often as they do now.... almost on a daily basis somewhere in the world.
DeleteI never saw this, but i did see a double rainbow a couple years ago in NY area.
