I read something interesting from Jewish Virtual Library - Reb Mendel attracted a young, brilliant, aspiring youth. He demanded withering self-analysis and disdained mitzvos performed with a whiff of self-interest. He recognized the centrality of the ego, but refused to accept it. He demanded uncompromising truth without self-interest. He cried out, “Give me ten chasidim who will follow me to the desert, eat manna and forsake the decadent world.”
The quote you posted is all over the web "A person who seeks recognition is much like a goat that wears a bell around its neck to announce its whereabouts"
I am not sure if you ever visit my blogspot and I am not sure you saw the posting of the gematria of my name, but I actually took my last post down regarding the gematria of my name which I found it in the parsha LechLecha, as well as my spouse's name and our son's name because perhaps my readers would think that I was seeking recognition. Recognition is by far what my intention was in posting it. I was so very happy to have found it there because all I hear in my head for ever so many years is LECH LECHA and now I have found out why it is. I am glad you posted this. I need to work on my impulsiveness. But because of my finding I am happy to say I have more concrete action steps to get my family to Israel before Shavous.

"But I don't want to go among mad people," Alice remarked. "Oh, you can't help that," said the Cat: "we're all mad here. I'm mad. You're mad." "How do you know I'm mad?" said Alice. "You must be," said the Cat, "or you wouldn't have come here."
