Not a Penny in the Pocket

H/t Rivky

Alternatively, the Messiah will not come until the peruta will cease from the purse....

Sanhedrin 97a.10

A peruta is a small coin, a penny.

The U.S. Mint presses it's final penny as the 1-cent coin gets cancelled.

  1. Wow, this never occurred to me! I wonder if there's also any reference to the push for permanent daylight-savings time?

  3. This is a perfect example of how a seemingly dire prophecy can come to fruition in a painless way. For centuries, people would have interpreted it to only mean we will all be poor. No one could have even understood, credit cards, online transfers, touchless, Bit etc. etc. Even tzedakah collectors often have machines, they don't even have to shlep around all the money they collect. Likewise coming to Israel on the wings of Eagles is a miracle but coming in a massive flying metal tube, with reclining seats and the option of "chicken or beef" is just as miraculous and a lot more comfortable.

    2. The expression “eagles wings” appears in Shmot 18:4 and refers to the miraculous opening of the Red Sea. Similarly, I believe, the 10 Tribes will be gathered from the 4 corners of the world to go to Celestial Jerusalem (the one not made by men’s hands) on a future not far away now. So help us G’d!

    3. It's actually Shmot 19:4.
