I hope he sounds better about 'returning to Israel'. I'll have to view it later (like 10ish after prepping for R"H). Sounds like a good shiur.

Devorah Chayah said...

It's worse and I'm sorry but it makes me cringe. He could be bringing upon them a gezeira to destroy all that comfort - large kitchens, etc, if that is what stands in the way of returning as Hashem commands us.

Anonymous said...

Agree with Devash..

Hashem should come before large kitchens, parnassa etc; After all Hashem is the provider.

Leah said...

I was disappointed on the kitchen comments, as well, yet I was also glad that he did say that the gedolei hador are saying, "Come to Israel."
I felt that he was acknowledging their words at least.
I hear him on some point about some women that may find this to be a problem as they are accustomed to certain material things, yet, for someone who is on a spiritual journey, they can absolutely be strong and not so focused on the material.

smb said...

What he's saying is that some people need to work on becoming less material and more spiritual. If they would go when they are too material, they won't be happy and might be turned off. And so they need to improve themselves where they are so they can appreciate living in Israel

BTW - he keeps referencing Rabbi Kaneivski in his *lectures* - so if he holds so much to Rabbi Kanievski and his messages - wth doesn't he himself get on a plane and go back to Afula?

Devorah said...

If you submitted a comment and I didn't publish it's because I can't allow personal attacks either against the rabbi or against the owners of the kitchens. It's probably a good idea to keep in mind that whilst the video is available worldwide, he is actually talking to his own community, in the very room he began his lectures many years ago. Everyone should seek the advice of their own rabbi as each community will have its own unique set of problems or otherwise. It's very easy to judge others harshly, but put yourself in their shoes and you may see things a bit differently. I am not coming to any conclusions here, just interested to hear what he has to say anyway.

I just don't think that a shiur should ever discourage aliyah based upon dibat ha'aretz--lashon hora about Eretz Yisrael.

Devash,
When did HaShem command us to return?
Yisroel Tzion

That's pretty much what I said but in different words Anon. Which is why your comment got posted and mine didn't. I really couldn't hold back.

Just adding that the whole war of Gog UMagog has been going on for 14 years, and seems like in Hashem's Great Mercy, the war was fought off home turf, and any battles to G-d forbid divide Yerushalaiym was only accomplished in the world of speech (which is more the enough).

Now, it's the end of the 1775th year of the 2,000 years of Moshiach, and the Vavim of the Amudim are almost ready (5 days left). It only takes one Jew to truly do Teshuva, set him or herself aside and allow Hashem's Light of No End penetrate their earthly consciousness. The instant that happens, the Light of No End will be revealed throughout the world, along with Eliyahu, the Great Shofar, and Moshiach ben Dovid.

It's that simple. And immediately after, all the nations of the world will be elevated, serving Hashem by serving His nation Israel, with remorse for their error and love for G-d, Israel, adn the Torah which are all One.

That has nothing to do with kitchens.

RR - Where does the war of Gog U'Magog come in? Only the 'righteous' of the nations will be elevated. Thousands of years of oppression and torture, etc. does not go unpunished.

The sad truth is that many, many 'Orthodox' Jews are not interested in making Aliyah and it doesn't matter how much they are encouraged. I live in a MO and most - the majority haven't any plans to make Aliyah. They all have nice careers and very big comfortable homes. When I ask if they are ever going to move to Israel there's a lot of hemming and hawing and comments like, it's hard to make a living there...or I can't make as much money as I do here...or maybe I could live half a year here and half in Israel. It's all dependent on money and comfort. Our rabbi talks about Israel all the time. As a matter of fact some in the congregation asked him NOT to talk about so much about Israel. We aren't allowed to talk about Israel on our community listserv. It's not Rabbi Mizrachi's fault they are attached to their material belongings. Last month someone called my house(from Israel) to ask for a donation. He proceeded to spend the next 40 minutes discouraging me, telling me how a person has to really be prepared to move to Israel as he knew many, many people who weren't 'prepared' for Israel or Israelis and returned back to America. I admonished about his negative attitude about Israel, that it sounded like lashon hara. I was so depressed when I hung up I wondered if this was a sign from Hashem that I'm not ready.

When Moshiach comes we will not want revenge and realize we never wanted revenge. The greatness of the Jewish people will be enough, and will be such a reward for our trouble in exile that we will thank Hashem for all He has done for us in exile.

Anonymous said...

Sorry. Ronnie Rendel; this has nothing to do with revenge. It is the justice that H' will mete out. It has been prophecied by our holy Prophets and it is common sense. And H' forewarns us not to be kind to the cruel because you will then be cruel to the kind.

Hello. I am making aliyah tomorrow with three daughters. Hubby and son will join us soon. We are ready for a spiritual uplift.
I try to be an honest person and enjoy speaking with Hashem, telling Him what is in my heart and that I will try to make His will my will.
I am actually bringing brightly colored things from our house to our home in Israel. Why? I recognize that I am a visual spacial person who enjoys her home's surroundings and feel the need to make my home bright and cheery. I speak with Hashem saying that I recognize this might not be the highest level for a Jewess, yet if bringing these things with me will help my transition to EY special then I would like to do this.
Another one of my prayers to Hashem is to please help me to be happy with what it is that I will have. Please help me to be mature and to continue to recognize that the spiritual matters most and the material is less significant.
I, too only speak somewhat to people in my community about what is coming down the pike in chutz laretz as I do not want to sound like I'm screaming fire in a crowded theater and scare the congregants away.
Yes, I too have experienced the "what are you going to do for parnassoh" "You know, apartments are not so big there"
Ok, fine, so the apartments are not so big or whatever... There is so much stuff hitting the fan now in the US that I see Hashem is changing the climate and we are ready to make this move. We see that although Moshiach may arrive in ten years or two minutes or five months- he is coming closer and closer everyday. It seems to be picking up speed.
You know what Emunah, in some ways it's not so great that everyone tells everyone how hard it is? Why? It discourages others. Also, you know what Emunah: The greater the mitzvah, the greater the yetzer hora works to dissuade a person.
Talk to people who will give you tachlis, yet not negativity. I,too have vacillated, and now we are doing it.
I do not expect it to be easy shmeesy lemon squeasy, yet I am going to make every effort to succeed.
Oh, and, I'm bringing my bright colored pillows. You know, the one with the funky yellow design with the matching single indigo embroidered throw pillow. Yea, that one. ;)

Leah, you sound like a neighbor I wish I had living next door to me. We'd have so much fun just living the challenging life in Eretz Yisrael. There is so much to appreciate here, once you open your eyes, mind, and heart to all the blessings. Your pillows will brighten your home and all those who come to visit you. Please keep in touch with us here and in my blog. We moved to Israel just over 5 years ago, for me it was a reunion of love, for my husband it was a BIG adjustment, but he's getting better at it every day. B"H the connection to our Land and history is the ikkar. HaShem will take care of His children.

It has to do with speaking unfavorably about the Land of Hashem and dishonoring the thousands of holy women who have put their blood, sweat and tears into those kitchens. This runs deep, it courses through the veins of every pioneer woman who ran a household under the harshest of conditions and STILL grew a Neshama. Still remained with an open heart. She left Mitzrayim and she KNEW it wouldn't be easy, but she kept her faith. To have that mocked in a cynical way is reprehensible and only shows how people hold their values and to what.

Ein Davar. From tiny kitchens come great souls and from great souls will come forth the songs that will great Moshiach.

All those who have come against us are fighting internal wars. Body, soul and mind. They have been afflicted with inner turmoil and madness, as is evident in their behavior. Hashem metes out perfect judgment and forgets nothing - down to the last genome, all is settled in the final score.

Noise Blockers and Other Remedies said...

A very wise woman is Leah. May Hashem bless your Aliyah with all success and ease. May it be a blessing for you, your family and all of Israel.

Noise Blockers and Other Remedies said...

Emunah - you have to follow your soul and its dictates. What is your Jewish Neshama telling you that is right. What other people do or don't is really not your concern at the end of the day. Yes, it's chaval and yes, it hurts when their words don't equal their action, but it's still between you and Hashem to work it out. If Hashem tells you to leave Egypt - you leave. If Hashem tells you to settle the Land, you settle. All the rest is the Yetzer playing mind games with you to postpone the inevitable. You know that time is running out and the luxury of freewill is a commodity that's down to the last marker. You can still book a flight and still make that choice if you desire. Find the inner dialogue to sort things out. The answer is within you - that small voice. Listen to that only.

Looks like you getting out just in time, Leah. In this week's message, Rabbi Ben Artzi says: "After Sukkot there will be a severe economic collapse in the world, in China and in the United States."

Leah,
Please accept my warmest wishes to you and your family for a yishuv tov v'kal.
I made aliyah barely out of my teens and I don't know whether I could have made aliyah later so I really admire people who do. And with kids!
May you all have tremendous hatzlacha and bracha. And may your mesiras nefesh to make aliyah bring a lot of zchut to all of Bnei Yisrael.
And may you continue to enjoy the pillows! They sound like fun....

Thanks for hosting all this, Devorah.
