The Rabbi fails to mention that the sin of the Golden Calf was initiated by the Erev Rav and not the Jews. The Jews were in a weakened state just after the long slavery in Egypt and some joined along with the Erev Rav; but it was definitely the sin of the Erev Rav. The Script is Hashem's and we in our small minds can understand it by thinking it was His Will that we play out history until the coming of Moshiach who has to be the descendant of Dovid HaMelech. We know that if the Erev Rav would not have come along with the Jews at yetziat Mitzrayim and the sin not committed, Moshe Rabbeinu would have been Moshiach.
In my humble opinion, it is so that; based on the teachings of Haim Vital, the Erev rav was the residue of the soul of Moses ! Had he not taking them with him, he would have not fully gone out, he would have not fully redeemed himself and therefor via him, but thanks to G'd really of course; Israel would have not been fully reedemed. But complicated and controversial matter. Rabbi can not tell it all in one lecture! On a more personal micro level, i can say as a 'father jew' i can relate to the fact that the Erev Rav felt left out, left alone, when Moses did not show up. Vital says he was their Elokim, and the Jews had HaShem ! The lesser souls don't just feel jalousy towards Jews, but can also feel misunderstood. What if there is no proper channel for their energy for HaShem/The World/History? Of course you can overcome negative feelings and search for your proper role. On a more positive, yet enigmatic way that leaves the door wide open for anything, i can state that even a non Jew can see UFO's for example - Heavenly or Demonic meessangers ? - So anybody can have an experience or encounter of the spiritual kind that is meaningful, even is someone is not Jewish. And as such life on this planet can have a reason for anybody. I'd say Jews in Tel Aviv being ever so atheistic is a much greater problem, and they are on a much 'lower level' as any G'd fearing Gentile would be ! For time being, they must elevate themselves !
Sorry, cannot fully understand or fully agree with Vincent. Chazal do tell us that at the end of days, the Erev Rav will be our 'worst' enemy. They unite both Esav and Yishmael and together they try to stop the coming of Moshiach. Do not give them credit, except for the fact that everything is the will of H'. They were led out by their leaders, the court magicians who were the sons of Bilam Harasha. They had powers of black magic; Egypt was infamous with sorcery. When you dig too deep into the secrets, there will be found much evil and some good in even the worst. That is not our concern. We do not compare them to righteous converts who have Jewish souls; that is a totally different matter, nor do we compare them to righteous gentiles (the Bnai Noach).
Vincent is discussing the book "Etz Chayim" which are some of the teachings of the great Arizal, as written down by Rabbi Chaim Vital. The teaching that the Erev Rav are part of the sparks of Moshe Rebbeinu's soul are in Sha'ar 32, Perek 2.
I have read that the Erev Rav will be aligned with the Jews only after Moschiach comes. Moshe Rebbeinu knew this, and that is why he allowed them to come with us out of Egypt. So that he could try and "fastrack" Moshiach.
yeah, one should give sources which i find hard and this is a great talent you guys have (and girls) on itself, to be able to remember all that. English is also not my first lanquage. Computer is not where my books are btw. I read in 'from Metafysics to Medrash' a lot about Vital's work and i could almost imagine it myself, as an deja vu:(...?) Your Teacher/Leader Moshe did not show up, and they panicked, the mixed multitude did, since he was all they had, they was not Jewish, they not really knew. Like i knew my father knew the matzeballs of his family, and they had problems in the war2 also, that was about it. In panick mode they grasped back to the one thing they did know. But as the Rabbi said: it was a set up, ain od milvado. Even panick by the them is part of Him, right? Nobody need to say sorry to me, i am always nudnicking you guys, and it is not always appropiate. So thanks.
H/t Sherry/Dave Rav Ron Chaya I'm watching this with English subtitles.

"But I don't want to go among mad people," Alice remarked. "Oh, you can't help that," said the Cat: "we're all mad here. I'm mad. You're mad." "How do you know I'm mad?" said Alice. "You must be," said the Cat, "or you wouldn't have come here."

Yes thank you for that response - Vincent you are a bit confused I think.

Chag Shavuot Sameach!
Okay thank you L.M. maybe I'm confused :) Sorry Vincent, I probably mis-understood some of what you wrote.
