Tens of thousands of people have fled their homes after lava spewed from a volcano near the Philippine capital of Manila, amid fears a bigger eruption could be imminent.
Schools and businesses across the capital were shut on Monday as clouds of ash from the Taal volcano drifted over the city.

וַיְהִי בַיָּמִים הָרַבִּים הָהֵם וַיָּמָת מֶלֶךְ מִצְרַיִם וַיֵּאָנְחוּ בְנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל מִן הָעֲבֹדָה וַיִּזְעָקוּ וַתַּעַל שַׁוְעָתָם אֶל הָאֱלֹהִים מִן הָעֲבֹדָה. [Shemot 2:23]
From next week's Parsha: וַיֵּט אַהֲרֹן אֶת יָדוֹ עַל מֵימֵי מִצְרָיִם וַתַּעַל הַצְּפַרְדֵּעַ וַתְּכַס אֶת אֶרֶץ מִצְרָיִם [Vaeira 8:2]

Over past years, it had been necessary for me to interact with many from that region.
I love the Philippino people. There are many here [and in Israel I believe] working in private homes with cleaning, childcare etc. Many are here in Australia illegally, but they all send money home for their children - it is not rare for the mother to go overseas to work and the grandmother will bring up her children. They are beautiful people and I hope they are all okay and not in harm's way of this volcano. Life is hard enough there.
